Organ and tissue donation is a personal decision that has the power to save and improve lives. Organ donation can give patients a second chance by replacing failing organs with healthy ones. Tissue donation can restore sight, repair joints and prevent infections in people recovering from severe burns.
The New Brunswick Organ and Tissue Donation Program has grown into a program with specialized divisions and highly trained teams:
Registered nurses and physician champions coordinate all deceased organ donation in the province, working closely with the Multi-Organ Transplant Program (MOTP) in Nova Scotia to facilitate life-saving transplants.
Certified Tissue Bank Specialists (CTBS) safely recover, prepare, and distribute donated bone, tendons, and heart valves for surgeries across New Brunswick.
Certified Eye Bank Technicians (CEBT), trained through the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), recover and prepare donated corneas, helping restore sight to those in need.
Thanks to these efforts, New Brunswick reached its highest-ever organ donation rates in 2024, surpassing national averages. Each year, hundreds of patients gain a second chance at life, sight, or mobility because of the generosity of donors and their families.
